Help with possible odd fuel distributor issue
Over the last couple of months the car has developed an issue where it’s missing and blowing smoke in open loop mode. As soon as it goes into close loop, the engine runs normally, the smoke dies away and the car is fine.
This morning one of my guys was moving the car around my shop and when he went to start it, it simply would not start. I spent the last two hours troubleshooting and it’s kind of a strange issue. It’s oddly similar to an issue I had with my 1993 190e 2.3 that I spent two months sorting out fuel related issues but this is slightly different.
The fuel pressure checked out on spec at 5.6 bar. It’s 85° here so I do not believe the cold start injector will fire.
The fuel pressure regulator seems to be putting a steady and forceful flow going to The FD. The odd thing is, there is no fuel coming out of the FD to any of the injectors. Once again, this is an open loop mode with the car cold.
Would a ruptured diaphragm caused this? It seems if the diaphragm was ruptured I would still be getting fuel to some of the injectors? Is it possible that the FD is somehow clogged up?
The car started right up this morning and ran so something happened between the time it was shut off and the time he tried to start it again.
None of this really makes sense because of the car running fine and closed loop mode.
