Manual w124 won't rev past 4000 rpm

Hello, I have encounter a problem on my e200 with a manual transmission that is a bit odd in my opinion. The engine wont rev past 4000rpm's whether if it is in neutral or any other gear. I encounter this problem very frequently but cant really put my finger on a specific moment this problem kicks in. Now, I've read on the forum that some gentlemen encounter this problem with their automatic transmission cars and that there is a safety feature that mb implemented. My question: Is there someone who encounter the same problem on a manual or have any clue of what the solution to this problem is?

With many cars having the computer controlling the accelerator/throttle, there are situations when another car close by or passing that can cause your own engine to change its revs.

It is a pretty neat trick to have two different makes of cars parked next to each other, nothing connecting the two and with both engines running but only one person behind the wheel you can rev both cars with the one accelerator.. but it’s no longer a trick when it happens on the road.. quite the opposite..

Just one more reason NOT to buy the modern crap they call cars.

Yes, it makes no difference if the car is on the move or is stationary.

How long have you owned this car? There is an automatic limiter on the tachometer. My theory is that someone might have replaced your tachometer with one from a diesel W124 and so the car cuts fuel every time you try to rev beyond certain range. The rev counter may also be incorrect if tempered with inadvertently during installation.
