93 400E Power Steering Pump Issue

93 400E Power Steering Pump

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am new to this forum, looks like some pretty good minds here. I have a "seeping" Power Steering Pump and the dealer tells me I need to reseal it at a cost of $600.

Anyone else have this problem with the E series and is it as simple as adding fluid every so often or is the resealing the real deal?

Thanks for any input any of you can give.

Also, is there any other major issues that go on with these? I bought the car with an amazingly low 75K last year and have 90K on it now - all I have done is brakes and replaced the caps and rotors.

The last I checked, the power steering pump reseal kit costs $35. Unless your pump is special or hard to service, I would expect it to cost considerably less to repair.

Thumbs down

I dont know which resealing comes for 35$, imagine you are running at roughly 1450 PSI in the system. So it seems to me the $ 600 is a good number. Normally MB is swapping the PS-pumps by factory reconditioned pumps, which appears to me the most professional way. Just think about to drive on the highway at 70mph and the pumps fails and then what?????
Costs your more than $600 and even health or life.
I think P/S is not something to take a guess, like brakes are not.

I double checked, the sealing kit is $33. The whole pump is $300. Pressure isn't an issue... I've sealed 3000 psi braking systems with $10 caliper rebuild kits and $2 brake lines. What's lacking with the seal kit?
