think it is. I bought the car two years ago and on the maintenance list was the tranny filter getting changed. I hear by not changing them (like on any car), the flow of fluid decreases , the tranny heats up and poof damage.. I did not see any discoloration in the fluid when I bought it. I distrust that maintenance record now.
I was driving it last week and it was shifting very hard. I parked it in the driveway and thought it was low on fluid. I pulled the trans stick and poof.. all black.
I am scared to see what is going to come out when I drop the pan to see if there are any clutch packs or metal chuncks. I just got in a new trans filter and gasket today, but if I see too much **** in it when I pull this pan.. I am in the market for a new/good rebuild one in the Boston area. Anyone have a good tranny shop around here? Do not say Aamco. They are two bit high pressure like timeshare sales theives.
Thanks a million..

I have no input on the transmission place but call up Carmine at European Car Doctors in Boston, MA (Brookline Ave. - Fenway). See what he can do for you.
Alternatively, the local MB dealer might not be a bad place to start either. Try Foreign Motors West in Natick, MA - they might hook u up with some discounts.
What color is your 400E? I drive a black E420 and I almost always notice other 124s
