Hi all, I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I wanted to try to upgrade my headlight to see a bit more during the night. I'm aware of the legal part, apparently they are not road-legal here in UK, so at the moment I'm just trying on my driveway for... personal interest. I'm well aware of the risk of blinding the other drivers, as I always get blinded when sitting on this car.
Once the disclaimer is done, let's go to the point. I found a nice, well built HID kit compatible with the car (they claim it's road legal and good for MOT, but that's not what the rules say, anyway), and it works perfectly on the left (driver side, it's a LHD car) side. However, on the right hand side, it's just not starting and it keeps flickering.
The socket is ok, connection is solid and it's just feeding the 12V, there is nothing more complicated than that. So I can't really figure out what the problem could be -the kit itself is excluded, swapping left/right doesn't change anything, the right side is always the one not working. Leaving only the right hand headlight connected doesn't solve it either, so they are not interfering between them.
My only theory is that the right hand headlight has a lot longer cable than the left hand one, and since the driver is a fairly strong DC/DC converter, the inductive load is causing the voltage to drop, switch off the driver, which then restarts when the voltage comes back, and it starts flickering.
Has anyone tried to install one of these kits and had similar issue?
By the way, in case anyone is curious, with the new bulb the patters seems to be ok and only "one brick" higher than before, which I think it could be easily corrected.
