Hey,

I found this beauty on a local marketplace.
The owner says it has 2.0 diesel engine however

• I can not find any 2.0 models from 1991 that are 4matic.
• The speedometer is until 180.
• Only 163000 km since 1991 - sounds a bit sketchy
• There is a Sportline emblem below the radio

He told me the 4matic sign is not only a sticker...waiting now for the VIN
The asking price is 3900 euro.

Please help me identify this model and if it is potentially a scam.

For your reference, this Canadian 300D 4Matic has 2 indicator lamps in the instrument cluster (red circled by me...the higher one shows an yellow exclamation mark ), which I do not see in the pic of the said European 200D.
Maybe European model was different from Canadian one?

Looks really nice. Not sure what part of it you think is a "scam". That it is a 4matic or that it's a 2.0 diesel or ??

 

All I can say from my limited W124 Diesel and 4matic knowledge is that it sure looks like a cared for car by past owners. Strange that it has a post facelift grille for a '91. Are you sure it is not a 93-95?
And the engine appears to be larger than 2.0 and has at least 5 cylinders (maybe 6?)

It is missing the sportline badging on the sides that were put on for 94-95 models so I'm not sure if it is a sportline, I believe the older sportlines may not have the badging.

It sure would be nice to have the sportline suspension on European roads, but if not at least it is manual transmission. That is a huge plus.

 

Post facelift grill?? That's the same grill my '86 300E has. Did they have different grills in Europe for those model years??

 

You're right it has the pre-93 grill and headlights. I was mistaken, it looked like the post '93 in one picture, that threw we off.
