Transmission fluid
Dear members:I wanted to replace the filter and transmission fluid on my 300e 1989. My question is : What fluid can I use (other than the MB brand), and after the removal of the pan, do I have to drain from another place like the converter?

Yes, the converter should be drained. It's a metter of removing the rear bottom cover to reveal the torque converter, then rotate the torque converter until the drain plug is visible.
Tip: Measure how much fluid is drained out. It'll probably be close to 7 quarts. After everything is buttoned back up, refill with 4 quarts of new fluid, start engine, leave in park, then top off with the remaining amount.
You should be able to use any transmission fluid that meets the specification for your transmission, probably Dexron II or III. Check this link
