'87 300E Sedan & '93 E280 Wagon
W124 Transmission Query
Hi all,
New member here with what I hope isn't a silly question.
I recently have purchased a '87 300E and am enjoying the ownership so far. It's transmission does however seem to be on the way out, surging between the first gear change, as well as sitting at around 4K whilst travelling at 100km/h in top gear.
I have the opportunity to buy a '93 E280 and was wondering if the transmissions would be interchangeable. Transmission code on the 300E is 722.320 and on the E280 is 722.433.
I do also have a '93 E280T that is mechanically sorted but requires some cosmetic attention so will probably grab the parts car regardless, but if the tranny can be swapped that would definitely sweeten the deal.
Here is a pic of the 300E for attention
Cheers in advance for the advice!

I can tell you from experience that it will only be downhill if those are the symptoms.
For not addressing it early enough I needed a tow home from the NJ Parkway.
Mercedesdismantlers in CA.., AKA Sun Valley Transmissions, rebuilds them. In Sept. 2020 the price was $2,000 including freight both ways. You give them your old trans. core to replace the one you get.
Price now at $2,250. Car runs beautifully now. Their website shows that transmission part #.
