M104 piston issue

I have an m104.992 in pieces at a machine shop. The engine had been sitting outside prior to this and two cylinders got fairly extensive rust. The shop is recommending oversized pistons... Not sure how much I'll need but I'm hoping it's more of a heavy hone than a proper bore. I'm not trying to boost it or make crazy power... Just a project actually headed into a 190e.

Question is, does anyone know where I can turn for oversized pistons? I'm in the US... I came across a peachparts thread about some guys running honda and ford pistons in this motor, honestly I'd swallow the sacrilege to save a few bucks. Just trying to figure out where to look.

Many piston manufacturers will have the ability to make the pistons you need. Reach out to them and they will make you a set and it will be as much as it costs when you consult with (3) or so of them. I would guess around $1000 for a set of standard stuff but inflation is pretty high lately.

Thanks for the response. It looks like I can get a brand new block for around the same money from here:

Which one would you do..? New block or new pistons?

I would say call your local dealer and confirm that part number is actually available at anything near that price. I am doubting the validity of that link. I say that part number is 'NLA' or no longer available. I hear it almost daily.

Just an fyi, I wound up getting pistons from DP engine parts out of Greece. Word to the wise, order before summer those guys take an extended break haha. But when they finally did come, the product was great. (knock on wood, it's all still getting assembled).

Looks great! FYI, last time I visited the delaership and asked them if they cell pistons/rings for a re-honed/re-bored engine. I was shocked to find that they do for a 2.6L M103.
It would have been kind of pricey though. What was the final cost of this? I will at some point need to do the same and am in the hunt of a low mileage engine to swap in instead.
