1987 cluster swap
So my 300D (87) odometer was not working and everything I read says the gasser cluster is the same except for the vacuum gauge and it says unleaded fuel. So I got me one and swapped out. Turns out they are not the same by a long shot. The speedo is off by 10-12 klm's at 100. Meaning at 100 K your actual speed is 110 or so. The speed is accurate up to about 55 kph and the faster you go the more of a difference there is. The odometer is off as well, drive a 100 k and it records 72 or so. Is it because one is gas and one is diesel? Is there a way to make it correct with a gear in the trans or what if anything can I do?

It is a plastic gear in the cluster. I cheap part to replace but you have to take the cluster out again. The differential gearing is a larger ratio in diesels due to obvious reasons which makes the difference. There are online outfits that sell these gears at a hefty price
