The "Debadging of 300E" failed!!!
Well I finally decided to debadge my 300E. Followed the usual instructions of using dental floss to saw it off. Then I used goo-gone to remove all left residue. I noticed that there was a imprint of the badge left there. I tried very hard to remove this by continuing to rub it with the goo-gone but nothing happened. When I touch it, it is really smooth and I am starting to believe that the imprint is embedded in my paint. If so, does anybody have any suggestions.
P.S. - Last resort is to repaint my trunk hood because if you can see, there are many scratches on the trunk anyways and also a big fade stain on the top of the trunk.

Try having it power polished first, if that doesn't work, and you have the cash, I'd paint it. While you are getting it painted, fill the holes for the star and have it totally de-badged.

Yep...ya' don't need a re-paint man!
...buff it out with a polisher; 3M rubbing compound first, 3M glaze second and finish with a favorite hand wax. A $30 Sears buffer will work OK. A Makita variable speed one (best type) can be had for $150 or get the Porter and Cable from Griot's garage for closer to $200. You can't screw up with a variable speed one (if you leave it on a slow setting)
If you have scratches in the clearcoat, you can use a fine cut cleaner first, then polish it. A body shop can also wet sand the clearcoat...you'll be amazed and want to have the whole car done that way.
Just a heads up too yo...your car's color is 'Smoke Silver' or 'Rauschsilber' in good ole German...little more classy than just 'Gold'

rubbing compound should do the trick.
my car is white, you can imagine what the badge 'shadow' looked like on my car.
is it me, or are only the 300's and 260's debadged?
yo jim, is that 500 debadged?

It looks better
Who wants meaningless numbers on the back of their car?
It looks cleaner and better without them.
(I like the star though)

some insight to the kiddish benz owner
(ie me, not that i've debadged mine yet)
e320? rebadge it to e200
now unwary civics, preludes and the like would willingly race me thinking they have the chance of smoking me. but....
second mentality is the bling mentality.
someone with a 300e can rebadge to a 500 e so ppl would think "he got the bling bling"

eh I had a tire blow out and mess up a rear quarter panel and a door. In addition to a dent on a front quarter panel. So I just decided to re-paint the entire top part of the car. Prior to that I tried having them buff out the pinstrip and it worked however the color had faded so there was a darker "ghost" pinstrip left. Something to consider when de badging with certain colors anyway. Opted not to put the badge back on thO.
I won't get the car back till jan...le suck.
but I agree I think it looks cleaner without both the pinstrip and the badge.
We'll see if I'm right....

I debadged mine because I put the AMG ducktail and the numbers would look stupid on it and just don't belong. Faking it is lame, i've seen a C180 here in Calgary badged like a C36 (guages say AMG as well) and that's as lame as you can get.
Anyone ever asks me, my reply is 300E, what reason do i have to lie? W124's with ANY engine are still better than 90% of the cars out there

Okay, I can understand why ZorroAMG did it--it would look weird withthe badge. As for the "cleaner" aspect, to each his/her own, I guess. I like my girl the way she is, with the badge and star. But thanks for your answers--I appreciate it!
