1993 300E W124 Silver Project Adjustable Front and Rear Camber Plates Installed
Context - My car is a 1993 300E. I lowered it with HR springs and installed Bilstein B8 shocks and struts. Did it in the garage, not too bad of a job. Just make sure you get the correct spring compressor.
After spring install, too much negative camber front and rear. I hate that look and tire wear is unacceptable. Front suspension has adjustable camber but mine was maxed out and still was out of spec at -2.5 degrees. Rear was about -3 degrees. FYI for those of you who aren't aware, rear camber is not adjustable from the factory. Looked terrible.
I decided to purchase the Silver Project front adjustable camber plates and rear upper adjustable control arms. Front and rear Camber Kit for Mercedes W124 SilverProject.eu | silverproject.eu
Parts shipped quickly considering they came from Poland. I got them in about 5 days.
Install on fronts was easy as stock replacements. Once installed, I put on the camber level tool and got the fronts to perfect spec; - 1 degree.
Rear install was a little more difficult because the adjustable arm need a little modifying to fit. It was not plug and play like the front. The inside metal bushing was about 1/4" too wide and need to be ground down to fit. Not a big deal but I don't have a lathe and had to do it by hand! The outer metal bushing was too small and wouldn't accept the stock bushing. You need to remove the stock bushing and install on new control arm. I drilled it out and worked fine. Again, not a big deal but I would expect them to fit out of the box. Once installed, camber adjustment perfect at - 1 degree. Overall, I am happy with the kit and very glad my camber is back in spec.
Here is my question - after replacing the front camber plates, the car sits about 1" higher. Any ideas on that?
