500E factory speaker part numbers

Hi,

I have a 1992 German market 500E with factory music. Its a becker Mexico CC with a boot changer.

This thing had 3 amps in the boot (two which went west so its running from 1 now-lucky I don't like music too loud) and 10 speakers I think (two in the dash, two in the front doors and the rear parcel shelf speakers seem to be 3in1's).I can find no-one who knows anything about this setup.

One of the rear speakers is crackly so I'm looking to replace it. Can anyone suggest where I may find a factory part (which I think is 1248200902) or a good reasnably priced alternative.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Tobyd

Hey Toby...where are you located?

You might want to post this over at http://www.500ecstasy.com/forums/index.php as there are several 500E 'ICE' experts that probably have the exact answer you are looking for. I do know there are a couple of aftermarket vendors that have drop in replacement speakers that other 500E owners endorse.

Is there a reason you just don't get a factory replacement speaker from your local dealer? I will/can get you a good price from my local dealer on that OEM speaker if you wish...

Hi Jim,

What a speedy response!!

I am located in the UK and the dealers over here are rubbish. Unless you need something for a current car they don't seem to know their *** from their elbow. Plus dealers over here are massively expensive so I was hoping to try save a bit of cash to put towards the fuel bills (as a gallon of gas is about$6 over here!!).

Bah...no problem Toby...I guess I was in the right place at the right time!

No wonder your dealers are clueless !! Only a couple dozen 500Es made it to the UK, right? Its not much better here truthfully but my local dealer knows 500Es very well.

I see you posted over at the 500E site....no worries...soon you will have everyone's help and input.

I put an e-mail to my dealer on your stock speaker...will get back to you with a price soon.

Thanks Jim,
True there aren't many 500E's over here. Very few are official imports through MBUK, most are imports from Europe. You must have better dealerships over there.

Thanks again for your help.

I see Toby; must be strange to drive a LHD car on your roadways.

...I actually have good luck in finding new 500E parts directly from MB parts in Hannover, Germany...when the US dealers fail to come thru. Good US dealers are few and far between but I am lucky to have a good one near me....with the parts manager being my neighbor !!

The left hand drive thing doesn't bother me. I get from the 500 into my 230TE RHD and don't think anything of it.
Driving the 500 has reduced the number of times I go to the drive thru though :-) Ticket machines at car parks are a pain too.
My 500 has a webasto cabin heater that I am looking to get working soon - especially now that the snow is threatening.

Ask your neighbour if he wants to move to the UK to get a job.
