Air pump, What's it do?
I previously posted that my A/C compressor was making a squeling noise, but upon further review I realized that the piece is actually the air pump. (the accessory that sits right above the alternator) Is this a smog pump that sends air to the headers to burn all the unburned gas for emmissions or does it work with the climate control to pump air into the cabin?

It is an emmisions device. I believe its to help your catalytic convertor burn at a higher temp (adding air to a fire) so that your end result is less unburnt fuel.

A smog pump right? Anybody ever taken theirs out of the belt loop? We don't have emmissions in my state, just inspection and those guys typically wouldn't catch something like that.
