Shifting Problems with my E300E

Oh my....my baby is sick I need a cure! I have a 1991 300E with 185k. I refuse to trade this car as my wife has insisted for the last 5 years because I do love it so. HOWEVER, my car is sick and I need help!

I recently was leaving the house and the car refused to "upshift" from low gear. I could shift easily among gears but it still will not go into the higher gear. The car can only go around 25mpg. Does this sound more like a computer/switch problem or physical prob with the trans? Wanted some advice before I take her to a shop. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter!

When did you last have the transmission oil changed?

If it was a long time ago, start with an oil change and see if this fixes it before spending big money on anything.

I lost 4th gear once and 3rd was almost gone. tranny had to be rebuilt.

Not sure if it relates to your problem, but I'd have it checked out

Sounds as if it could be the valve/switch on the tranny....have a tech check that also.

Is the fluid too low and was it the correct stuff ? (not to insult your in-laws work)
