Keyless Entry/Remote Programming Question
I'm putting a Bergwerks keyless entry into my 400E:
www.bergwerks.com/keyless.jsp
Ideally, I'd like to have a Mercedes remote key operate the Bergwerks keyless entry. Is it possible to reprogram a 94 E Class key, or any other Mercedes remote key to work with this setup?
Anyone ever try this?

You might try searching the site as I remember seeing a similar thread on how to reprogram a MB remote from ebay. The conclusion was that the MB remotes cannot be reprogramed. I think they are shipped blank from the factory and then programed by the dealer for the specific car you have. Once that is done, there is no turning back. As for other remotes that are not from MB.. I dont know.
Heres the link about the keys from the Tech Forum

Thanks Run...after searching for quite a while I reached the same conclusion as you. However, I may attempt to somehow jury rig this setup by swapping the guts of the Bergwerks remote with those of a Merc remote key. I don't know if a key blank can then somehow be cut to match my key, and still work as part of the remote key...
Well, it's an interesting challenge anyway.

The keyless remote for my 97 E320 suddenly quit working. I have misplaced the owners manual. Does the key take a battery or take a charge in some way. It has always worked fine all these years. Please help. The wife is getting kinda loud about it.
