500e to 300e headlight conversion
I found some headlights from a 500e and am planning on using them in my '89 300e. I was wondering if there any special wiring needed or if there are any other problems i may run into. Thanks for your help.

These lights are US. DOT sealed beams, same as you currently have on your 300E, complete with U.S. headlight wipers.
Save your money, don't buy these.
Euro headlights, even 'Euro fakes' have a single lens that covers the foglight and headlight, and have a much larger reflector for the headlight. This larger reflector creates a much brighter, focused beam to put light where you need it. Believe me, you want euro lights, not just 500E lights.
The lights on 94-95 E320s, E400s and E500 were the like the ones you want though, and these on the ebay sale aren't it.
As for the wiring: there is an adaptor that you need to purchase to convert your U.S. DOT light plug into the one you need for euro lights. I don't remember the part number, but search around, you'll find it. Also, you wouldn't need any wiring change to use these headlights in your 300E.
There are differences between 300E and 500E headlights, in that the fog lamp is a driving light on the 500E. But that hardly matters if you have crappy light from the U.S. DOT headlight.

500E Euros will run you anywhere from $400 - $600
Regular 300E Euros will run you from $200 - $300 for aftermarket maybe a bit more for Bosch or Hella.
I have Depo, and mine are great, no complaints, and are exact copies of the bosch units, and quality is I would say the same.
If you prefer oem, get the bosch or hella, if you don't care, I highly recommend the depos from personal experience. The adapter plug is easy, they are cheap, and all you have to do is rearrange the wires in them.
Check out http://www.danielsternlighting.com/
He has great info on wiring and everything, and if you are going to upgrade, wire in relays, the lights will be brighter.
If you prefer the look of the 500e lights, pencil beam for the highs in place of the fog lights on the 300e lenses, and nice chromed inside, definately try to get those. Otherwise the regular 300e euros are fine, and will look great.
Any of the euro headlights is 100 times better thant he crappy US Dot Headlights, and better beam pattern, more usuable light ont he road, safer, and they are the way MB intended for the car to look.
