Removing Gas struts from a TE tailgate
Does anyone know the proceedure for removing the gas struts from a 1988 230TE tailgate? I have obtained change-over struts for US$45 but need to get the old ones out first!! Any tips much appreciated.

Have'nt done it but I'm told it's difficult because they are inside the roof, remove the plastic panel on the inside at the rear and take a look.

Your not wrong.... beautifully engineered - as always. The gas struts have 3500psi of pressure! No surprize considering the close geometry of the linkage. I have got as far as pulling the pin out of the barrel end of the strut, but wondered if there was better method as it is quite a tricky proceedure.
