so true, I like the your 500E. It's pretty nice and clean. How I like it. About the grill...was it custom or did you get it somewhere? That would look sick in black on my car.

I like the color, but I say lose the AMG badge. The 500E was Mercedes' answer to AMG (independent back then). It seems contrary to the heritage of the car to have an AMG badge on it.
Unless of course, it was really modified by AMG. But I've yet to see one of those (not that they don't exist).

V8power E500, thanks for the very helpful pictures! They are very straight foward and I'm pretty confident that I can do it myself.
So the only think holding in the mesh metal if you call it...is the old grill itself. Seems to make sense since those darn clamps hold in tight.
Also, how do you manage to open the hood now without the lever?
Once again, thanks for the picture! It was really appreciated.

Nice 500E! I agree that the AMG tags look out of place, but it's your car obviously.
Congrats on joining the W124 Mesh Grille club

e320newbie, I replaced my black painted hood star with the carlsson flat badge when my hood star was stolen one night. I love the flat badge and think it makes the car look cleaner and more aggressive.

Thanks for the info Zorro...You'll be adding me to the mesh grill club soon. I'll probably do it by the end of the month.
Do you suggest or does anyone suggest I primer the mesh grill first and use auto spray paint or just gloss spray paint?

Well it is just my opinion now that when you change the grill you no longer have a car that says "mercedes." They all look too ricey. In fact I had purchased and tried 2 different avantgarde grilles but when I put them in the car no longer said Mercedes to me. This may be attributed to the fact that mine is a weird color and the black inserts were just too much in contrast with the body color but whatever. If anyone wants one I have 2 that are slightly different from each other...Now I won't charge much because I don't think they are worth it. I will list them somewhere in the near future prolly.

Flat badge it, it'll definetly look cleaner. I would color match the grill surround and mesh. Right now it looks cheap. Take off the AMG badge all the cheesy $5 dollar chrome accessorries and DO NOT replace with the dealer tag. Just becuz there's space doesn't mean fill it with anything. Buy the MB instrument cluster removal tool from Ebay or the dealer for a couple of bucks. You can use this to reach thru the mesh to hook onto your latch and pop your hood open. This will eliminate that ugly green wire hanging from your grill.

Different grilles are no more cheesy or ricey than ANY car mod outside of OEM. I mod to be original and to enjoy my car, not to make it look like my grandfathers mercedes or to impress the world. I like it, that's what counts.

On the other hand, I'm not Mr. 100% Stock either - for example, I think the AMG Monoblock wheels (with the fancy blue & silver Mercedes center logos) on ksing44's blue E320 (just above the E500 in the Pictures thread) look fantastic
