300e 300se cold air intake
Hi, has anyone made a cold air intake system for their M103 3.0 engine? *If so where did you get the parts? * I am trying to find a rubber elbow or boot that will attach to the M103 intake and bend at a 90 to accept a tube of either 2.5 or 3" diameter.
Thanks
Dan

There's been a lot of discussion about this issue on these boards. I think the general consensus is that the cold air intake for M103's is not worth the gain. I do remember seeing one on EBAY once that used Porsche parts. It think it was about $200.

Your current intake system is probably more efficient than any modification you intend to perform.
For most, a modified intake system normally includes the magical K&N filter.
Look at what a Benz owner has to say about the use of a non-stock air filter:

I have adapted a morgan-tech intake for my motor, seen below

but I still need to build a heat shield for it, but for over 40k miles I have had no problems with it, the filter is metal so there is no special spray needed (like on my truck's K&N FIPK)

I'm still not a fan of these intakes being placed on our cars.
Denim, doesn't it seem that your intake itself is a little too far in the engine bay?

If the intake is not sucking "cold" air from outside of the engine bay it's pointless...looks cool, but so do antenna *****...neither will increase performance.

just need to find someone who is good with working aluminum, I know I am not gaining much power over the original, but I still gained power, by better breathing, and at high speeds the heat radiating off the motor is no match for the high speed air flowing in through the grill
