Software Update?

Ive been having a problem with my 300TD,98. After about 5 minutes on the road, the car starts having a problem downshifting,,, a hard jerk when slowing down, between 20-15mph. Also, the car idles fine at stoplights, but if you put it in PARK, the idle jumps to 10-12 rpms and stays there. I took it in last week, they said it was fixed (bad front wheel sensors). NO FIX.

Now they tell me it needs an update because everything is checking out on the computer. So they are doing a software update for the transmission.

Anyone ever hear of this?

Yes, software updates are not uncommon. This is much cheaper than replacing modules.

it worked...

Well the software upgrade for the transmission fixed both problems. It drives great now. So how much does something like this cost? (my mechanic did it for free for me)

It depends on the stealership that you work with - some are free, others are not.

Sogashia, can you please post some specifics on the software update? If you woudln't mind locating the paperwork, I'd be really curious as this is the first I've ever heard of the update... Has anyone else had it on their w210?
