IT's just double sided taped to the trunk lid and has no holes behind it. The star has 3 pins that go into 3 holes in the trunk.

The dealer put an ad badge on my Avalanche. I just pulled it off and used Goo-Gone to clean the tape residue. There was a little bit of a gap between the body and the badge so that made it easy to simply pry off.

This badge has no such gap, what is the safest way to remove it?

Drop goo gone on it, use a bit of hair dryer heat, then use a fishing wire slide it behind, and run it and pull . Avoid running it too much using the same part of the fishing wire as the glue sticks to it along with other debris and may cause some scratching. When doing this, make sure you don't pull up to much from one side so as to cause damage on the other. Pull evenly as much as possible.
