How much should it cost?

Whats a fair price for replacing all 4 of the stock spring and shocks with Bilsteins shocks and Eibach springs? Labor only as I bought the parts myself.

Can anyone recommend a good and yet reasonably priced mechanic in Queens NY?

Thanks

Ed

mechanics

Most of the time, mechanics get upset if you do this, because not only do they want to kill you in labor charges, but they also want to make their 10-15% on parts. Good luck with your search

I really don't see a problem at all bringing your own stuff. Most of the members on this board bring their own mods to a Indy. I paid $275 for labor and took it about 4 hours. I later landed up redoing the whole thing myself, because I wanted the car lower and changed the 13mm spring pads for 5mm pads. The car is very easy to lower. If you want a noticeable drop you might want to change the spring pads because Eibach is very mild.
Good luck
Mario

Bring your parts

Most reputable shops that do steady business aren't worried about you carrying in a few specialty parts for a mod job. Its the big stuff they want to sell, like major engine parts, body parts, complete brake job, etc... In Florida my guy costs about $75/hr labor. MB dealer s about $100/hr. A shock and spring job maybe about 2.5 hours with the alignment included. Labor is a cash cow in any industry. The mechanic that does the work makes, $20/hr and the shops keeps the difference for all there overhead. If a shop can bill 20 hours a day at $75 that's $1500 a day or $7,500 a week or $390k a year.
Add to that major engine parts, tires, etc... A shop can pull in $500k a year of which 75% will cover all expenses leaving, $125k for the owner.

well out in socal a great shop will do it around 275-300.... also don't forget about getting a allignment after you do so.

mb dealer over here is way over $100 an hour. But great shops that specialize in mercedes or suspension installs charge around 80-95 an hour....the shop i get my work done, if i buy the parts from them they will cut me a deal on labor....

hope it helps.......

if you're in SoCal, I can route you to my friend shop, he'll probably charge you about $200.

And they don't give a crap if you bring in your own part (except for tire, if you do, you have to take the old ones w/ you).

what alex said. He knows what he's saying. I compared prices before and noticed that for a great shop it was around 275-330 but the places that did it for cheaper really didn't know what they were doing and mostly did honda's and etc....

I've seen stupid case like this left and right, people happily pay more for the same job, simply because they think the job is more superb, but never bother to check for its quality. I once personally witness a lady took the dealer BS and paid $140 labor for AirMassSensor replacement, while act as a "know all" and comment to the service advisor that the shop down the road obviously didn't know what the hell they were doing by quoting her $40.

In case you don't know, it does cost MORE to change shock for the Honda & Acura, these cars mostly have strut, which is PITA to replace. Mercedes one is straight open old one and put in new one.

most shops go by how many hours it takes to install parts, remove and install, etc.... and like blackstunna and alexbenz said a great shop does it around that price and yes honda's are harder to do then mercedes......from what i see you always come on this forum and try to give a bs price and your "so called hook up" , Don't you have a projector install to do??by the way you shouldn't try to sell stuff if your not a sponsor! , Don't come in here and advertise your BS brother.......

You sure have a lot to say for a guy with only four posts. I'm not sure why you are giving Zam such a hard time. Zam has helped many of us with our lights and from what I have seen Zam can't be making much or any money on these deals. From the sounds of it David220, you know it all and will never need anyones help from this board. This is a learning board not a "know it all board".
