Check Engine.....Part 2

Ok guys here is the situation as it stand today. My repair guy was not in the shop Friday so I did not let them fix it. I just don’t trust the other guys there since I had a problem with another Benz I owned. Any way more on point.

I went to AutoZone today to get the fault code read, thanks for that tip guys, and he came back with six. 5 were engine misfires so I need a tune up which I will get Wed. when my mechanic returns. However I also got a fault for

P1170 ESO Engine shut off fault what ever that is.

P0400 Malfunction in the Gas Recirculation Flow.

The other codes were as follows: P0300, P0302, P0304, & P0306

Ok guys help me out here what do you think I should say to my mechanic. I like to sound informed so that things are done that only need to be done and I am not taken for a ride. Also the car is smooth until I have to press the gas hard to try to pass and it will start choking out. All I have to do is turn off the car and restart and it goes away.

What steps should I take guys any idea? I want Wed. to be the last day I deal with this. Oh also I have some dark green hose that is not connected under the hood. It is about the circumference of a coffee straw but that is all I can figure from it.

You didn't say what engine you have in your car so the codes are generic.

Codes P0300 - P0389 are Ignition Related
Codes P0400 - P0492 are Emission Control Related

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected

P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected

P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected

P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

P0307 Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

P0308 Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected

P0309 Cylinder 9 Misfire Detected

P0310 Cylinder 10 Misfire Detected

P0311 Cylinder 11 Misfire Detected

P0312 Cylinder 12 Misfire Detected

P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction

P1170 may refer to the O2 sensor but will be different on the code table from one car manufacturer to another. You will have to ask the dealership on this one.

Thanks E-Klasse I have the E320 model car. So what does that mean Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction? I guess I will call the dealer on the other items. Well I am going to change all fluids, plugs, maybe wires, and filters. I need to know what parts I need to get for the two codes that are not misfire related.

What year is your E320. The 96 and 97 have an Inline 6 and the 98+ has the V6. If yours is the Inline 6, it is much easier to work on and the misfire faults could be because someone washed your engine and got the plugs wet. The rubber boots on the plugs could be cracked and shorting out causing the misfires. Other faults could be then be related to that. Check the coils, plug wires and the plugs first.

The car is a 97. The engine was washed so I guess that could be it. However that was about a week or so ago. Also there is a small green vaccum hose that is loose so maybe that could be it. Sorry guys but I hate not knowing what the issue is but one thing is for sure it is an electrical issue.
