Front Grill Question

Anyone had their grill out for painting or powdercoating? I'd like to have mine powdercoated gloss black but after looking at it from the back - it looks like the outside metal/chrome part is snapped/clipped to the black plastic part on the inside of the hood. Anyone successfully unsnap or remove just the chrome outside from the inner part or is it hard to do without breaking the plastic?

I'm thinking the heat of powdercoating will melt or deform the plastic inside part which is why I want to separate the two and just take the chromed piece in for beadblasting and coating. Thanks in advance

Many of us have powder coated our grill. I did mine in gloss black. The metal frame frees from the plastic with just a few screws. Also you can powder coat the thin metal pieces in the gril (I think there are 7 of them). These pieces just slide off, might have to use a little mussle. I paid $100 to have mine done with no problems. Powder coating is much stronger and will last much longer than paint. It should take you about 10 mins to remove your grill and seperate all the pieces.

like mario said, it's easy to take off the grille, i had mine painted but powder coating is a lot better, stronger towards the rock chips but if you paint it then you need to sand it slighty, primer and then paint........

Hi Mario,

I want to powder coat my grill. I am in So Cal as well.
Can you tell me where you took your grill to get it done?
Also how long does it take?

Thanks.

Mario,

Your car looks great. Any chance of getting a pix of the grill?
