Question Removing Shift Knob - 97 E320

I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to get the original leather shift knob off. I've seen some posts regarding turning the black plastic base ring counter clockwise, but it won't budge. There's a screw under the plastic emblem, took it out, still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

What you read is correct, try using something with a bit more grip (a set of pliers if you don't want to keep the knob Lossen the base until it drops off, then pull off the knob.

Use a rubber glove, it will give you a good grip and save the lever too.
