It's the M-17:
Hadam, some more hints on the headlamp covers:
For the right side headlamp cover, let it drop to the side instead of taking it out, then squeeze your hand in....its tight but doable.
For the left side, you can pull out the front washer tank (pull it up and put it aside, careful not to let the water spill).....then you will have lotsa room to work with on this side.

Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H1
I got my Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H1 form UK. I can not find any in US. The best price with shipping I found from UK.
Don't buy from Australian or Malaysian seller selling on E-Bay, they are asking for US$100 or more with shipment.
I got from UK for $66.85 deliver in 5 days. See following link.
http://www.autostylin.co.uk/index.php?cPath=80_81
Please note that Philips Diamond Vision 5000K are not DOT approved. I talked to Philips in US and they told me they can not sell this in US.
Philips Diamond Vision 5000K are also not legal in Europe. Only part you find legal is Pacific rims country including Australia.

Hadam and Whitey, thanks. I ordered the Polarg B1 Hybrid Hyper White City Light 8W (whew, that's quite a long name!) and the Philips Diamond Visions. Anyone order spares? Also, Hadam, have you installed the Polargs and have you had any issues with them?

How to install City Light Bulb ?
Whity, Today I try to install Polarg B1 Hybrid Hyper White City Light 8W on my E-420, but could not figure out how to remove the back cover.
Whity, you have given me good description. Fog lights were easy once you get under the car, but City lights look like little difficult to get to.
I took some pics, please see attached. Can you tell me if I am doing the right way. The space look very tight. Hard to put my hand and remove the back cover.
If you or any one have any other pics for DIY will be great help.

Whitey,
Thanks from me too, in advance of receiving the bulbs. As they say in your neck of the woods: M'goy sai (thanks).
BTW, been to Stanley Market lately? I miss my old stomping grounds.

hi all
can someone post their
response to which bulbs would be most sufficent for the
white out effect
hate the yellow look in fog and standing/parking lights
contrasts with the white HID lighting of driving lights
but all these posts have me guessing
H1 = foglight phillips diamond visions
but which one for standing/parking lights
thanks all

I received the Polarg B1 Hybrid Hyper White City Light 8W (M-17 P8701) bulbs today and installed them in the parking light location. My installation was completely different than what Whitey posted, perhaps because I have a 2000+ model. As I indicated earlier, installation instructions are shown on page 289 of the owner's manual.
Anyway, the results were uneven. One bulb is much yellower than the other. I switched them from right to left, and the yellowish bulb remained yellowish in either side. You can see from the picture the (US!) driver's side is yellower. I e-mailed 2kracing. I'll post their answer.

Does the same bulb or side remain yellow? Could be a loose connection to the housing. Or else you got a faulty bulb.

Assuming its the same inside on MY00+, it should be what I said above
City lights:
1) Pull the retaining wire on the back of the headlamp to the opposite side to its normal postion. This will free the cover of the light unit.
2) You will see a number of wires going into the center lights, a set for the high beams and a wire leading to the city lights (if I remember correctly, that would be the one on top)
3) Firmly but gently pull the entire black plastic base/conenctor of the bulb out - do not try to pull by the wire. The bulb and base is hooked on, but mostly by friction. Be gentle when handling the who connector as the plastic might have aged and may be very brittle, especially in breaking the retaining clip.
4) Rotate bulb slightly to unhook it from the connector and viola! Remember to file off one pin from the Polargs to make it fit. Reverse the above to reassemble.

Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H1
Whitey, the Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H1 looks great on my 97 E420 and match teh Xenon light. There is little tint of blue, but you don't see it once the Xenon are on.
Now the problem I see is the City lights. Polarg M-17 are not very bright and not very white. Actually if you drive with City and Fog lights only, you can see little yellow on City lights (Polarg M-17).
Any suggestion what else can go for City lights that can match Xenon and also little more brighter ???
Whitey, Thanks again for your help.
My Philips Diamond Vision 5000K H1 I got from UK and they are Made in Germany.
