NGK Iridium IX vs. Denso Iridium

Seems like everyone agrees the Denso iridiums are great plugs. What about the NGK Iridium IXs? The NGKs are about half the cost. Anyone have any experience with the NGK plug? Is there any advantage in spending almost 2x as much to get the Densos? Would be putting them in a M112 v6.

I don't know about that, however I can say that I was a bit dismayed when I pulled the plugs on my M112s and found that they were NGKs from the factory......however the replacement part number from the dealer is Bosch Platinum! I guess there is a difference depending on who is paying for the plugs.

I am happy with the Denso Iridium plugs in my car.

I would go with the Denso Iridium as they are OEM in Toyotas, Lexus, Honda, Acura, some BMW's, Mercedes, and a few other high performance cars. I have always had great expeiences with Denso and I would surely by them again.

gapping and NGK?

Thanks for the responses about the Densos... Did you have to regap the Densos or did you stick them in as is? I understand that the gap setting is less crucial on the Iridiums (and that it's easy to damage the plug regapping).

Is there anyone out there that has personal experience with the NGK Iridium IXs that would care to comment?

Iridium plugs are supposed to be better than platinums. One of the more common platinum plugs, the Bosch Platinum +4, has a fixed gap setting that doesn't get along well with Mercedes motors.

I ordered the NGK Iridiums today. Will post results after they're installed.

The melting point of iridium is some 700 degrees than that of platinum giving iridium excellent sparking wear resistance and improving ignitability. The drawback I see with some iridium plugs are the reduction in size of the electrode, there is a rapid acceleration in wear as the electrode becomes smaller.

I've used Denso Iridium IK22, NGK BKR7E IX, and NGK BKR7E on my supercharged E430.

ngk is what brabus uses on its versions of cars... while I was at the wheel supply I had a chance to look at a card that was for a brabus car, and it stated to only use ngk ird plugs
