w210 Bilsteins Vs E55 Shocks

I am in between buying a pair of used E55 shocks or some new bilstein sports. They will be wrapped with a H&R coil also, which shock will give the best ride and handling? If anyone has experienced both could you please give me your info on this.

new bilsteins all the way... don't consider used shocks.. esp if they were used for let's say 90k miles and close to its end of life.

Mercedes uses Bilstein HD shock for its W210 E55 line. So I think your question is more like "Should I buy used Bilstein shock, or new Bilstein shock ??", I think the answer is quite obvious.

Labor cost for installing shock is not few bucks, so that's not something you don't want to try, and if not work out or part die out quickly, try another.

Used W210 E55 wheels are nice thought.

I had Bilstein HD in my car, and you ride in it, so you know. Spring are still stock though. If you go with Bilstein Sport (shorter a bit), you might have to change to shorter spring.

Zam, i really want the Bilstein HD's, i loved the way your car handled and drove. The HDs are better than the sports correct? I also plan to wrap with the H&R coil like i said so this will give it the drop plus better handling than if i were to use the sport bilstein, correct???

Nope. SP's are designed for performance/lowering springs - the travel on the SP pistons are designed so they dont bottom out with shorter springs. HD's are for the longer standard springs, hence with lowering springs, you MIGHT bottom out. H&Rs are not standard length.....go figure.

If you want to lower your car a bit (shorter spring), go with Bilstein Sport. If you want to maintain stock height (OEM spring, or spring with same lenght), go with Bilstein HD.

Both are excellent shock, and perform very much the same (same response rate). Price is the same too. So it's all up to the spring you use.

i need to do the same thing - my shocks are shot. since everybody responding so far is from CA - how much should i expect to pay to put the HD's on, versus new springs and the Sport shocks. i'd like to drop my car maybe an inch or 2, can that be done with the springs that are already on the car and new HD's? Or is the best move for lowering a little to switch to the sport shocks and springs? if somebody has a picture, i'd like to see a car with the sport shocks and springs with all the other variables (pads, bars, etc.) stock. My mechanic quoted me a grand for just the shocks all the way around - seems high considering i see the shocks online for $350-$400

HUAHUAUHAHUAUHUAH

But what Hank said is true, new Bilstein are much better, hence why I have new bilstein sport shocks and HR springs on my E55
