2000 vs the 2001 or 2002 E320's

I'm thinking of purchasing my 1st MB for my wife. She wanted an MDX but I do not like nor think the car is worth the price. Based what I want to spend I;m looking at a low mileage, used 2002, 2001 or 2000 E320.

I read some disturbing reports on the 2000 with electrical problems, A/C, etc. Did MB fix the issues before they released the 2001.

What are the pros and cons for the 2001 and or 2002.

Any information on the above models would be helpful.

Thanks.

If you purchase an 00-01, you will only get 1 year warrantee. Depending on the original sell date of the 02, you would get longer warrantee coverage (if you purchase starmarked). I would suggest you take the car which has the longest warrantee, as it has proven extremely useful to me (02-e320). i've had thousands of dollars in warrantee repairs in the past 5 mos.lol.

Cool My 2 cents worth...

Last fall I was sort of where you are and decided against the '00 because it's record was simply too spotty. The '01 had better reliability ratings, which is the year I ended up purchasing.

I didn't really consider the '02 for a few reasons. First, it was simply too expensive, and second, I've always been one of those people that avoids the first year (or major redesign year) for vehicles. I'd rather other folks be the beta-testers. Third, I liked the design on the W210 more. Except for the wheels, that's why I have '04 211 wheels on it.

Happy shopping and keep us "posted",
Greg

2001 E-430 4-Matic
2000 to 2002 E Class

There were very few changes from 2000 to 2002. The only ones I am aware of are a one-push to open moonroof button and trunk release inside the trunk in 2001, and a wheel style change in 2002. As far as reliability, I imagine any of the initial quality problems in the 2000, such as tank gauge or a/c problems, were fixed. You'll just have to check out all the controls. I highly recommend you get a car with the Starmark warranty.

2001+ also have a digital speedometer display in the dash LCD. 2000s don't.
