Fair Price for 1996 E320

I ran across a 1996 Black E320 this weekend while looking for a 300E as a second car. It is Black with 180K on it and the owner claimed the AC did not blow cold. I told him I was looking for a 300E and unless it was a killer deal I was not interested. It needed a good cleaning but the paint looked good still.
What do you guys think; either way I am getting a second Benz. What would you offer knowing that it will probably at least need an AC compressor.

Parts & labor on a remanufactured A/C compressor and a new receiver-drier (required w/ compressor change) will set you back about $1000. With 180K miles and potentially unknown A/C problems, I wouldn't go over $5-$6k.

Thanks for the reply. I passed and wound up getting a 93 190e 2.6 instead as a second car. The 96 was not all that clean and the 190E had less miles and I did not pay that much for it.
