Considerations when changing suspension?

I was looking to change to Bilstein sport shocks, but the deal didn't go through. Now I'm wondering what I should do. I'm still interested in buying the Bilstein sports along with H&R springs to go the 1.5 inch lower.

Are there alternatives in terms of parts or are these brands the generally accepted way to go?

Also, if I did get these parts and have my mechanic install them, any guess as to the amount of labor I'm in for? And are there other parts he will need?

Edit: I guess the question about brands is better defined by asking whether the Bilstein/ H&R combo could be Bilstein/Eibach instead, or does it even matter what the mix and match pairing should be?

i think H&R's and EIbachs are pretty much even, although I have been told that Eibach spring factories are now sent over to Asia for manufacturing, and quality control might be lacking some what...in term of performance i wouldn't know...

I on the other hand have Bilstein SP and original avantgarde springs which suis me fine...i love to drop lower, but malaysian roads will never allow for it..The Bilstein SP is so much fun to drive with..

I have seen a lot of sweet rides in the forum with excellent slammed rides though with both springs....

Labour in malaysia was only US30 after conversion.. ( i know it doesn't count!

good luck

well, if i'm not mistaken the avantgarde springs are in some ways sports springs in compared to the elegance trim. I was actually on K&Ws, but it was way too low, but so far the stock springs seems to work pretty well with my ride..

there will probably be a point in time i might chuck the springs for something sportier, but aren't Mercs using bilstein HDs with stock springs?

Possibly.

I had heard that the OEM shocks are made by Bilstein, but if they are identical to the HD, then I guess it would be pointless to replace OEM with the HD, right?

i wouldn't say it would be useless..it would be a lot CHEAPER compared to the OEM..you know, DC's mark ups and ripping off buyers...:P
