Best engine/tranny years for the 98 -02 E320?

Got a few questions about the E320 since I saw the fuel mileage is around 29-30 hgwy for them in MSNs auto section.

- Anyone getting near 30 mpg highway in this car with the 6 cylinder?
If so what year is your car?

- Any known engine/tranny issues with high mileage E320 cars? (sounds like its a head gasket or hormonic balancer from reading searched post. Is it both on later engines?)

- How do you guys feel about MB dealership service on these cars? Is it pretty reliable and curteous? I used to own a Bimmer, service stank wear I used to live.

Thank you for your responses

my 02 e-320 gets around 30 mpg hwy.

harmonic balancer was replaced. Only have 35k mi on car so I don't know about high mi. trans. Did have issue with trans. wire harness-was fixed.

service depends on the dealership. Because these cars are "older", techs, usually, have figured out any issues you may have and can, usually, fix them promptly.

lol.

My '00 E320 wagon with 50k miles gets 30 mpg on the road with the air on. Park Place Midcities, in Bedford, TX does a very good job with service.

Going what speeds?

Going what speeds?

I'm a fairly agressive drive and live in LA, 75-80 mph is "normal" highway speeds around here.

You guys get those MPGs going in the 70 - 80 range?

anyone know about engine or transmission reliability?

Thanx much for your help

2000 E320
I get about 28 going 80-85mph on my 2000 E320. I don't think I've ever seen 30mpg, but then again I haven't really tried driving slower... :p

I just did 31.6 MPG

2002 E-320, on a 4 hour trip, keeping it around the speed limit of 65.

Woohooo.
