Odometer will not turn off

97 E420
Odometer will not turn off
I have a 97 E420. When I turn off the car and take the key out, the odometer stays on. This causes my car battery to go dead if I don't drive it for 3 or more days. Please help if any one knows the problem.

Since no one else is getting back to you...
Assuming that your door switch is working, whenever there are strange electrical gremlins about I usually try disconnecting the battery for a short period, then reconnecting it. Of course you have to go through all of the resets and stuff, but it's worth a shot. If you've already tried that...hmmm.
You might try posting up in the tech forum as well. I don't think this is a common thing, but it might be seen there more easily.

startup disk or registry which is non volatile. So in effect, the disconnect
becomes more like a reformatting of one's hard drive and some settings which
are reliant upon power vanish and a trip to the dealer is needed. Am I wrong

Any stored codes in the ECM will still remain, need the STAR Diagnostics computer to read the ECM and clear them. But if there is a CEL on the dash, it should dissappear. Obviously if the problems persists it will re-appear soon.

I checked the door switch. It turns out that the driver door switch did not pressed all the way in when the doors close. After adjusting that the odometer turned off. Thanks for the advise. I'm glad you said assuming door switch is working. Thanks again
