I have read a lot of complaints over quality issues on Mercedes over the past 2 years since I have owned my E420. I say BS! Take care of your car and it will take care of you!

I am now working through the insurance companies to get paid and I have started shopping for another car. I am leaning toward a "post-face lift" E430 or an E55 if I can swing it. After experiencing this accident, I would have a difficult time convincing myself or my family not to put my rear end in another W210.

p.s. - right we are in the same boat man, im driving a 99 chevrolet malibu 4 cyl, though the car is preppy in its own way

IMHO
PS: The rental Chevy Impala I have feels like driving a large soda can!
Hey, why not consider a w211 body style. The car should be at the same quality and safety standards as the w210??The thing with European cars cars is that they are very strong, and can take heavy impact because they were meant for the autobahn hiway. I recently had an accident with my 2000 BMW 528i, some stupid guy with a truck hit me from the behind at 100km on the hiway, the car was gone, but i walked out without a scratch. I always feel safe in a European car. These American and Japanese cars are trash compared to these cars. What i did with my car which might sound silly to some, i took the "528i" elbem of the car to make me remember this car saved my life. From the pic, the car looked pretty banged up, glad to hear your ok.

The W211 has the following advantages to the 210... the major advantage is that the mid '04's and newer were build during a time of MAJOR quality control increases by MB so as to regain their high position on the JD Power survey.. the sank some $2B into a two year QC program .. My 2005 has been flawless.

Other than this, you have more aluminum body panels (except the pax cage) for more rigidity and weight savings, you have Boron steel re-inforcements in the pax cage vs standard high-strength steel.. You also have more airbags.. and a slightly heavier pax cage.. so all of those add up to an ever safer car than the venerable W210.. just look at the pic from the post I did above (3 or 4 posts above).
