ATTN: 1996-1997 Mercedes-Benz E300D owners !

I was just looking around for a good 1996-1997 mercedes-benz E300 D, and was wondering how that car really is, performance and comfort wise??? Is it true that car does 0-100km in 12.3seconds?????? Thats a pretty slow pick up.

I actually made a mistake. I posted this thread first on the new e-class forum, didn't realise at that time.

Yea, they are slow. I love mine though. No problem moving on the highway though. Even for such a slow car I still manage speeding tickets / warnings :v

It's a good engine with a redline at 5,200rpm which is rather awesome for a diesel. The ride is really smooth. These cars are excellent if you like taking trips, comfortable, safe, good MPG's, and one of the best looking cars on the road

You cannot expect much pick up from older diesels. Purchase a 98 or 99 E300 turbo diesel if you want some real pick up. Mine is very quick. The W210 body style is very comfortable and has a lot of leg room.

I know many underpowered mercedes-benz diesel engines, for example my father used to own a 83 240 d (don't remember if it was turbo), 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel, and 1991 Mercedes-Benz 350SD. The E300D shoudn't be that underpowered compared to these cars mentioned above. Now my father owns a 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI (late model, manufactured 04.05). The diesel engine has come a long way, and the new car is actually more powerul than the as engine. Im going from a 96 BMW 318i manual, so i guess it won't make any difference to me performance wise.

I've raced a 82-85 300CD and beat it. It started pulling on it the faster we went. The 300CD was the turbo-diesel of the time

I want to get my car chipped hopefully December or January time.
