Creaking noise from the front suspension

I've noticed a creaking noise coming from the front end of my 2000 E430 4Matic (63,000 miles) when stopping and/or turning. It seems to be coming from the front suspension.

Any thoughts on what could be causing it?

Sounds like upper control arms joints...I have the same issue with my '97 E420. My make more noise in the summer than winter. Shop says if you can live with the noise there is no safety issue with it...if you can't live with the noise you must replace both uppers.

I will be replacing mine in the next 30 days...Looking at $500-$600 installed. This is a very common problem with the E class.

Good Luck

Also take a look at your sway bar bushings and end links. These are pretty cheap and ez to replace.

I think it may be your bushings.

One time my mechanic used WD40 and sprayed it into the bushings to get rid of the sound. It worked.

I've been living with noise from the front end of my 98 E430 for well over a year now (actually it's the reason I started reading MB forums). I had the ball joints replaced at 80k miles and the noise continues.

For me, it seems to happen the most at low speed like driving out of my drive way or moving through an intersection. I can actually feel it thumping/rattling under my left foot when I am driving, but it goes away when I increase speed. My mechanic swears my suspension is fine.

Check the front anti-sway bar end links and bushings. They are famous for failing. Easy, cheap fix.
