removing catalytic converter

Greetings,

Had anybody remove the catalytic converter, and replace with a straight pipe for more power?

Do you need to replace any other parts besides just the catalytic converter to increase power?

Your help would be most apreciated.

Regards,
Simon Low.

You will need to provide the appropriate signal for the O2 sensors or the ECU will set CEL and go into "limp home" mode which means no power.

Ran my E430 for 4.5 years with no secondary cats and never once had any issues with the vehicle going into "limp mode". Yes, you can run test-pipe, I opt to replaced the OEM 2" dia. tubing with larger mandrel bend & H pipe. On a dynojet I gain 3-5rwhp w/o the sec. cat., the weight saving is a plus and the open V8 sound @WOT is priceless!

I would say 6"-8" inches before the secondary cat.

Greetings Richard023,

Are you saying that it will function properly by just removing the catalytic converter and replacing it with a steel pipe??

No need to adjust or reprogram the ECU?

Hmm.... where do you get the steel pipe? is it custom made?

Regards,
Simon Low (mine is a w210, year 1998 E240 V6)
