1997 E420 change of phone advice
I'd love to use the integrated phone system but my '97 E420 has the corded factory phone which is not practical for me. How do I get an integrated wireless phone without giving $1500 to the MB dealer?

no way, no day
I don't think they can do it -- even for $1500. Here's a better solution, get a SonyEricsson T68i with Bluetooth. The phone slides easily into the little compartment next to the integrated phone (under the wood flip thing). Then, get a Motorola bluetooth headset. Voila! No wires, no mess... handsfree, state of the art.
If you really want the whole enchillada, get the Parrot CK3000 bluetooth set -- then, it'll hijack your stereo speakers and microphone when a call comes in, and you'll be totally handsfree. The beauty is that when you park the car, you just grap the SonyEricsson phone and go! Nothing to unplug, nothing to unclip.... just take it!
Bluetooth rules.
So does the 97 E420.

Parrot CK3000 bluetooth set? Where can I pick myself up one of those? I already have an Ericsson T68, or is it only compatible with the T68i?

Bluetooth
The Parrot kit can be purchased at Expansys:

Hey, do you also use a Bluetooth headset with your T68i while in the Mercedes? I've noticed the following:
1. All 1900Mhz GSM phones seem to make my stereo buzz loudly about 2 seconds before a call comes in. Go GSM phones emit something when recieving a signal? This happens with my Siemens S40, SE T68i, and Motorola V60g.
2. My Motorola Bluetooth headset seems to only get about 3 feet of crystal clear reception while in the car. While that's TONS of room inside a car, I would have expected it to be a little better -- i.e. I should be able to leave the phone on the back seat, and still talk clearly from the front seat.
Ideas?

Hi, sorry for the late reply...
Yes I do get the buzzing from my stereo when the phone is nearby, same thing as you get, 2 seconds before the phone rings, it happens with all my phones, nokia 8890, Motorola V66, and Ericsson T68. I have both the HBH15 and motorola bluetooth headsets, and seems like the ericsson one has better range, although it picks up more background noise than the motorola one....
