Do you panic.........

after parking way out in the parking lot so that no one will ding your doors or key you while you are in the mall or wherever?

Wife and I went to a movie last night. I dropped her off at the door while I go and park, you know....5 million miles away to hopefully protect the car. During the movie I find myself wondering if all those teenagers in the parking lot are parking right next to me and opening up their car doors into me.

Am I messed up? It's just that you spend alot of money, detail it all up so someone can ding it up. Just a little paranoid.

Cars are meant to be driven around...

...and it is inevitable, you will get dinged eventually. Drive the car and enjoy it for what it is. There are folks with much more expensive and exclusive vehicles who park it anywhere they can fit it, with no worries. I would be careful about parking it TOO far away from other cars. In some cases that could attract unecessary attention to it.

I actually dinged my own 2 month old Honda Odyssey with my Mercedes. Damn, I felt like kicking my own ***. Thought it would happen at a Walmart.

I too, share your fear of getting dings on my car and I'm finding myself doing a lap around my car before getting into it just to check and see if some fat *** dinged my car by chance. It's a good idea to get to know your local PDR guy so if you do happen to get a ding, he can pushes it out for you for cheap or free.

And a tire valve core remover is a great tool to have in case the perpetrator is still parked next to you...

A tiny rock in the valve cap also works nice. In 3 tires....so that he can't replace it with his spare and a friend's spare. It can be real frustrating if it happens the Friday right before Christmas break at the college parking lot and you have flight to catch after class. :v

At least that what my friend told me...

I totally agree and I continually try to tell myself that but as a **** car owner (obviously like many of us here), I find myself looking for the "safest" spot and it often annoys the hell out of my passenger(s) cuz I take a longer time than necessary to find that perfect spot and they will often end up having to walk farther to get from/to the car :p A good compromize is to try find a spot where there is only a on one side, with the driver's side next to you (most drivers/car owners will be more careful than passengers/non-owners) and preferably one who has his mirrors folded (implying the owner is careful about his car)...........

DPR sure is sure a good economical fix and the best "invention" since windscreen wipers but still, it is a PITA and damn annoying when its becuz of someone else's stupidity and disregard for other's property

As for the "counter-attack strategies" proposed...I've found it happens to me when I'm there the longest and never even have a change to retaliate.....

I park so far out that I have to hike back to the mall. I NEVER take two parking spots, it is asking for trouble even though people do it all the time with their POS's

Ha, to the point where I have circled the parking lot and didn't like any of the spots so I left. Whatever I needed didn't seem as important or worth the fustration of getting the car dinged.

Then last week while parking on the street, I find that some f*cker double parked me and door dinged both my front driver wheel fender (right at the crease) AND also somehow hits the rim of my wheel and gouges it.

Needless to say I'm pissed. Estimate to have body work done by MB is $440. Trying to track down the local Paintless Dent Removal to see if they can do their magic.

......And my wife says that I am the only lunatic that spends 15 minutes looking for the perfect parking space as far away from everyone as is possible.

I tell her I do it to keep her thin.

I tend to look for the parking space near the end of an aisle so that only one side of my car is exposed to an empty parking space. But there are inevitably trees planted there, so as I walk into the store I find my self concerned about tree sap and bird droppings.

Ok, maybe I do need help.

i think we are all guilty of paranoid parking....personally i could care less and since i guess i'm of the lazier type i try to go for the front spot......which is why i love driving my mothers car. shattered leg means even less walking for me.

I can relate how you all feel. Personally, if I'm our running around, I'll use the garmand GPS to find a safe spot with ample parking without cars and place a call to have a car service drive me to the store. If the service is unavailable, I'll just go home until they have one available.

Seriously - I feel what you guys are talking about. It drives my wife nuts when I call the car service. jk

If I have to walk a little to help prevent dings....so be it. However, I would never park so far out there where it makes it too noticable (no man's land) that you're avoiding other cars. Sometimes punks who are walking will notice\comment about cars who do this. Is the second worst thing to taking up 2 spaces.
