newbie

Just bought a 2001 E320 4matic with 33,000 miles for $14,000 and a 2000 Acura RL with 86,000 miles. Beautiful clean car. MY first MB at the age of 60 after 20 years of Saabs and Volvos plus the one Acura. Love to drive it. I have two questions: My AM radio is all static, FM forks fine. Is there a ground problem that can be fixed? Second, gas in my area is mostly 93 octang, manual calls for 91,can I use 89? Thanks

things with and without wheels
You can use higher octane but not lower.Maybe you can blend the 93 with 89 and achieve the same result .

To have maximum power and economy, use 91 octane or better. You can get away with using 89 as long as you do not have knock or pre-detonation. This is harmfull to the engine. To avoid damage with 89 octane, don't go racing around at high RPMs. Smooth and steady driving is easiest on the engine. Also no towing a boat or giving rides to large oversized passangers. Extra load on the engine can cause it to run hotter and pre-ignite. The higher the octane rating, the more the fuel can be compressed before pre-igniting. The engine electronics will detect knock and try to compensate for the lower octane. It can only go so far because the compression ration is still the same and higher in the Mercedes than engines designed to use low octane fuel.

With the kids E-420, that poor reception and static was found to be caused
by a loose connection at the ant. amplifier located near the rear window.
The tech simply tightened it and the problem was solved.
