E320 Oil Leak

I recently changed the oil in my 96 E320 changed(Mobil1 10-30) and it now leaks only when the engine is running. I have about 200,000 miles and no major problems to date. Could this mean that the gasgets are due for a change or is it time to start using 15-50 oil. PLEASE give me your opinion.

Do you observe the leak after changing to Mobil1 or you've been using Mobil1 since day one? I would try thicker grade to see if that would stop. If it leaks a little then don't worry, if you see a small puddle in your garage , then have it chech out. At 200K miles, a head gasket replacement is not uncommon, especially for '96 E320. Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I've always used Mobil 1, 10-30,. Though my mechanic suggested going for a thicker grade like 15-50, but I thought it would be too thick and affect the performance, like some people posted here.

The leak is comiing from somewhere below the oil filter. I guess around the transmission head and it leaks only when the engine is running

My daughter's '87 Camry had an oil leak, I did not have time to check for her so I sent her car to my trust worthy mechanic, what he found out was the oil pan nut was not tight enough, nothing wrong with it. So, you may want to check & make sure that those things, oil filter, oil pan nut were properly tighten first. Good luck.
