will these wheels fit?

Hi all, I just replaced my W124 (totaled) with a 98 E320. I found a nice set of rims, but am not sure if they will fit. the numbers on the inside are 7 1/2 J X 16H2 E31. The tires on are 225 50 R 16. I have tried the search, but could not find the answer. Thanks in advance for any help.

7.5" width X 16" Diameter with an off-set of 31mm. ET is the off-set. 31 will work but the normal off-set for the stock 16" wheel is like 41 for the E-Class. Most aftermarket wheels are 35 or 37. Tire sizes sound good at 225 50.

I tried one of the rims in the front, but it was rubbung on the caliper. Does anyone know if a spacer would correct this, and how is the size determined.
These are the same rims as the one I am considering. The guy wants $900 for rims and new tires. Any help is appreciated.

The width of those rims explains why they rub, even tho it is an 7.5"@ET31 (which technically should work with rims having a thinner lip). Spacers will fix it but it depends on how much you need to psuh them out as it might rub the fenders, if too much. Best to check how much u are rubbing i.e. how much u need to space it and judge how much u have left to the fender's edge (inside edge). If alot, it will also put extra strain on your bearings and axel as well (because of leverage), so not a good idea.

Bear in mind also that if u space out the front, the rear's might appear to stick in disproportionately, that could be an issue but more on looks.

My advice, unless u really must have them, is to go for another wheel that fits properly.

When you indicate that when the rim was mounted, the caliper "rubbed" or touched the wheel. I assume that it was the back of the wheel to the outer edge of the brack caliper, is this correct?

If you go to the "other" forum post about projector headlights, you can see the owner "foreyes" is running similiar 17" 3 piece wheels. I think the 16" wheel must have a little more material near the wheel hub as the 17's are used without a spacer.
