Where's the Heat?

As the mornings are getting cooler in NJ, the heater comes on automatically. The trouble is that even when I turn it to high and set the fan at MAX speed, there is very little heat. I replaced the thermostat last year and the enginge temp is fine. It takes a long time for the heat to come out and it never really gets going.

Any suggestions as to what it could be?

That may be related with national gas prices ... good luck

presuming that your engine heat and thermostat is functioning properly,
then the next most likely culprit is the damper doors which allow metered
air to circulate into the cabin. sounds like they're not opening

Thanks raymond g. I'll look into the dampers. I thought it might be the whole lcd module that may have gone bad, but I'll look into the more easily correctable things first (kinda like checking to see if the toaster is plugged in before taking it appart).

You better unplug that sucker before you take it apart! I'd hate to see you ruin your day!

What happens if you leave it on automatic. I notice that it takes a while for our 04 E500 to heat the cabin as well but auto seems to do the best for us.

I usually leave it on automatic all the time. Even the air conditioning is slow to cool the cabin well.

When it is cold outside and the engine at operating temp, the vents blow warm (not hot) air. I have to turn the fan on MAX and the air takes a long time to heat the cabin. My first thought was that the temperature sensor inside the car ws faulty, but the dampers seem to be the first things to check.

Any other ideas?
