Driver's side rear window will not go up
Does anyone know how much will it cost to fix the drivers side rear window, the whole thing with the window glass and the regulators the whole thing. I do not know what happened, but today as I was driving and rolled down my car windows to get the heat out and just 5 mins later rolled all of them up ,but when it came to the rear drivers side window I heard a loud bang noise and my window stopped half way. As it was not rolling up I rolled it down and tried to put it up again, it reached half way and there was another loud click kinda noise and the window just slide down by itself. I tried to roll it up again and I think I heard my glass break inside the door or something else break but it sounded like glass. I do not know what happened my car is out of warranty and I think the glass is broken inside that door (not the whole glass but the bottom part I think because the top part of the window glass is fine as I can see it) does anyone one know how much will it cost if it has to be replaced. I just have 36,500 miles on my 2001 E320. I do have an extended warranty which I bought from the MB dealership, but it is not the starmark warranty.

You will no doubt have to replace the window regulator. It will cost about $300.00 at a shop. The part is only $45.00-$80.00 depending where you buy it. It is an easy replacement if you are handy. Do a search for replacement instructions.

This post on another board helped me replace mine. I was able to drill out the rivets and then install the new regulator with srews and small finger (butterfly) nuts. The finger nuts are easier to hold in place inside the door panel while you get the crew started. You can also use new rivets, but you'll need a very heavy-duty rivet driver.

Take it to the dealer - this has been an ongoing issue with the last E-class body. My mother's last E-500 had this same problem at least three times that I can remember. They always fixed it under warranty repair.

Thanks for the information everyone. I would have opened the door and fixed the regulator myself, but the problem seems to be bigger. I could hear broken glass kind of noise when I tried to roll the window up. The regulator motor seems to work as it was moving up not all the way only a little and then getting stuck .I called the dealership and made an appointment, they said to bring the car in. But they are not sure what the problem is and will let me know how much to pay if I have to pay after the tech opens the back door. I hope my extended warranty covers the repairs. I will let you'll know what happened.
Thanks

I doubt it is broken glass. You are probably hearing broken plastic which is the pulley wheel that breaks causing the window to get stuck going up and down. It usually makes an awful sound. It really is an easy DIY if you know how to remove a door panel which is easy to do. You're looking at saving $200-300 if you do it yourself.

I had the same problem and sound!
Thanks to all the help here I removed the door panel and put the cable back on the spool. The window worked again but I took it in for warranty repair and they installed a new regulator.

I hope it is broken plastic and not broken glass. I am not sure if my extended warranty will cover the repairs. My appointment with the dealer is next week and I will let you'll know what happened.
Thanks everyone!

It happened to mine also and sounded like a broken glass, but actually it is sound of cable running in between the broken plastic 'n metal gears. The motor works fine though. Try out the links I sent u for replacment of regulator as DIY job.

Window fixed at no charge
I got my car window fixed for free under the extended warranty I had purchased and yes it was a bad regulator and the glass was not broken , but a little scratched. I should have posted this earlier but I was out of town.
Thankyou everyone for the advice and information.

Man that happened to me 2 months ago and dealer said my extended warranty (Heritage) did not cover it.
Next time it happens I will just get the part online and do it myself

warranty
When I was purchasing the extended warranty the service advisor told me to take the top of the line warranty, which was only $500.00 more. I am glad I took her advise, because just about 3 months ago my car CD player went out and the extended warranty covered that too and then the window which was also covered.

I've been through 6 or 7 regulators in my 1998. Was afraid I had busted glass each time. *** sucks.
