how does $33,500 sound for 33,250 miles for a 2002 E430 4-matic w/navigation, xenon, integrated phone, glass roof, etc.???
It's Cert Pre-Owned from the dealer w/a warranty for 100k miles or until 4/08.
Is that a good deal???

I did check last Hiline dealer auction prices and think that you are paying $5000 more.
What price dealer is asking; for that you can get 2002 E55AMG.

I agree with Hadam that the price is a little high. However, that extended warranty (if it extends the bumper-to-bumper until 100K) is worth at least $2500-$3000 IMHO. I think if you can haggle them down to 30K, the deal sounds pretty reasonable. The list of options is a little nicer than the majority of cars available.

The warranty is a M-B bumper to bumper warranty 'til April, 2008 or 100k miles.
M-B will change bulbs even, brakes, wipers all maintenance is included!!!
Plus M-B is doing some financing deal where they waive the 1st 2 pymnts.
It's nuts. To make matters worse I just got a call from a guy who wants to sell me his 2003 E-320 (new body W211) w/only 11k miles for $34,000.
I'm torn between the new body and every option in the book on the 2002.

I, too, was stuck betwixt a 2003 E320 and the older style 2002 E320. For 8K difference and mo betta reliability, we went with the 2002. Love the car, it has little quirks still, but my buddy, who has a 2003, has far more problems than my (wife's) 2002.
Get what you want...for the 2002, I would pay no more than 30 to 31 for it from a dealer with it certified.

Go to Edmunds.com and go to the Smart Shopper Forum and the Real World values forum. There are dealers as moderators and they'll give you the straight scoop on what's really expected in the market today...

I agree it's a little high, but when you throw in the maintenance and a full warranty it's a pretty good deal. You'll be a very happy owner knowing you have no worries, and if you get it for 31 so much the better

Take the 92 Star Marked.
The price is good considering:
* 65,000 mile or thereabouts, you're going to need a Mass Air Fuel meter ($400) and O2 sensors ($500) and, probably around this time, rotors and pads all around ($800).
* 75,000 to 85,000: spark plugs, wires and surely by then the both rear window actuators will go bad. Also not a bad idea to get new shocks.
* 80,000: That's when the federal warranty expires, and there's a risk from that day forward of the cat converters failing ($2,000). This is also when a ball joint or lower control arm bushing might need to be changed (+$400).
Now my favorite item: tranny.
There's always a risk in the 98 to 02 versions of the pen in the shaft to break; that's why transmission people will tell you a rebuilt e320 tranny is better than new because the rebuild includes a brass bushing around the ring deep in the plenary where the pen comes to rest. ($5,000 remanufactured from dealer v. $3,500 from indie if you can find one).

My Deal
ok so, I did the deal for the 2002 E430 4-matic, 33k miles, nav., phone, xenon, etc. for $32,500 and I got 3 years or 100k miles warranty. That's 2 more years on top of the 1 that M-B gives you for "free". So, my warranty goes out to 2009 now - right around the time of the model redo for the E-class.
I went to see the car and to drive it - it's awesome. M-B financing is also making (waiving) the first 2 payments for up to $1,400.00 which I did. As a result, the price actually gets $1,400 knocked off for a total of $31,100.00.

Sounds like YOU got a great deal and the e320 is AWESOME. I really need AWD and I have a thing for the stock wheels on either the e320se or the e430. Plus, I think it was Socrates or Aristotle who said, "there's nuthin' like a V-8".
The other thing that I love is that original factory warranty in my car expires on 4/7/06. After that I have another 3 years - until 4/7/09 or 100k miles.

is that?We are reaping the benefit of all of these cars coming off lease. Just imagine the sheer volume of autos! I can't wait for the model re-do in 2009!!! By then, the 2006,7,8 W211's will be great bargains too!!

I was thinking the same thing, however, the artists drawings of the 2009 is spectacular! Looks like an S Class. I might have to break down and pass on my policy of buying only used cars. Damn MB!
