AMG 5-spoke 203 wheel: from CLK500 to E320?

Hi, I'm thinking about buying someone's set of AMG 5-spoke 203s from their 2003 CLK500, but I'm not 100% sure if it goes onto our 2000 E320 perfectly.

Researching tirerack.com, it seems the same wheel with the same specs, to my knowledge, is offered for both vehicles.

Specs of wheel

AMG 5-spoke 203 from CLK500 2003.
Fronts: 17x7.5 +37mm offset, with 225/45-17
Rears: 17x8.5 +30mm offset, with 245/40-17

(TireRack.com recommends for 2000 E320 tire specs:

Fronts: 235/45-17
Rears: 255/40-17)

Anyone have further insight for me? Many thanks again.

Yes, the wheels fit, but you'll want to put the correct size tires on the car. The CLK tires are too small.

265/40/17 is a more appropriate size for the rear, but TireRack may have listed 255/40/17 for clearance reasons. I don't know.

I have the AMG 5-spoke 203 17x8.5 ET34 on my E320. They look great on the W210, IMO.

Tirerack is correct, 265 is a little too wide for an 8.5" wheel itself. There's nothing wrong with 255 in the back.

Good point about the rim width, Whitey. And there's another reason to go with the 255: there are a lot more tire options. (TireRack doesn't even sell a 265/40/17 all-season tire.)

lexrex, thanks for the info.

So, is the correct offset in the rear for our E-Class +34 or +30?

With these AMG wheels, is there any need for wheel spacers? Someone on another forum said I'd need some.

Also, although the CLK's tires are smaller and shorter, would that be a big issue for the E-Class?

Thanks again. -D

Those wheels are fine; no spacers required. The CLK tires are fine too (~1.8% speedometer error), although I'd put the normal W210 sizes on when they wear out.

The factory offsets for the W210 were either +41mm and +37mm, depending on the wheel. It's best to keep the offsets as close to factory spec as possible. The front end geometry is engineered for a specific location of the wheel centerline. When you change offsets, you change the location of the wheel centerline relative to the hub. Any change in offset affects the scrub radius. A significant change in the scrub radius can have an undesirable impact on stability, handling characteristics, and tire & bearing wear.

+37mm offset for the front is perfect.

+30mm offset for the rear is fine. The rear is less sensitive to offset changes than the front. This will bump the rear wheel out slightly, giving it a more aggressive staggered stance.

I went with 17x8.5 +34mm because they were about $130/ea cheaper than the 17x7.5 +37mm size.
