E430 winter wheels

Hello,

I have a 2001 E430 4matic I'm trying to get winter wheels for (stock 17" have high performance tires on them). I tried 1998 E320 16" wheels but for some reason they wouldn't fit, while they did on a friend's 1999 E430?

questions:

1) anybody know if something changed on the 2000-2002 E430's to make 16" wheels no longer fit?
2) anybody have a spare set of wheels they would like to sell, or know of a good place to find some cheap?

They fit ok on the back but not the front...are the rotors bigger on a 4matic e430? I got a full set of 16's with blizzak snow tires on them if your interested-CHEAP!--but you'd probably encounter the same problem.
Are the front rotors bigger on the e430 w/4wd or is my mechanic lying?
