1996 E300 Black/Grey and Rust :(
Just bought a 96 E300
Hey,
I'm a new W210 owner and have a few questions, of course buying a 10 year old car will require some upgrades and repairs. Bought a 96 E300
1. cup holder doesn't lock closed everytime??? Fix or replace?
2. Light behind fuel id burned out, is it behind the guage cluster or are they easier to fix these days?
3. Side view mirror (dirvers side), seems to be lacking a locking mechanism as it can be pushed with the slightest touch, is this broken or just missing a spring or clip?
4. Drivers side head rest doesn't move, I'll try the sliding all the way forward trick, if that doesn't work is it most likely the switch or motor??
5. Whats the do hicky on the dash near the wind shield in the center, i thought that was the receiver for the remote, but thats in the rear view mirror.
6. Lastly, what size tires can I safely put on my OEM 16" 7.5 stock rims? I'm thinking 225/55/16's any recommendations?
thanks
-190E-Boy
Yep I still have my 190E and soon will be driving my E300 (got to register and title it still)
Oh yea, are there any dedicated groups apart from here that are good W210 forums?? thanks

Congrats on the new car.
There aren't too many diesel guys here. A lot of diesel ideas can be found at mercedesshop.com. You're going to like the OM606 engine.
Before you post, it is a good idea to inspect broken parts so that you can describe exactly what needs to be fixed. A lot of the members here can provide good help, and more information about what is broken helps their responses.
1. You're the best person to evaluate the cup holder problem. It could be something jammed inside of the holder, or a broken piece that doesn't allow it to catch when in the closed position.
2. I've never replaced a dash bulb. Although I'll go ahead and assume you have to take the cluster out like the old ones.
3. The mirrors can break fairly easily. If you have the time, take it apart and inspect for any missing parts. You can sometimes find used mirrors on ebay.
4. Never heard of the sliding all the way forward trick. You will need to do further inspection of this. Switch, fuse, motor, etc. can all be a factor. I'd say check your fuse first.
5. I believe this is your temperature sensor.
6. 225/55/16's I think are the stock size. Check with a local tire source to see if you can go with a wider tire and shorter height. This will slightly help your performance, but give you a little rougher ride.
