how do you release the drive belt

I bought a drive belt for my car and i would like to release the belt so I can change it. but not sure how you release it and is it a special tool for the belt! this is for a M119 motor not the newer motors.

I changed the drive belt on my 97 E420 I used to own. It is a real PITA! THere is an idler pulley on the right side of the engine (when facing it) that places the tension on the belt. I ended threading the belt over all the pulleys except the idler pulley. Then I used a non-marking pry bar (it was a bar inside a piece of rubber hose) to pry back on the idler pulley and finally got the belt slipped on the pulley. There is probably a better way, but it ended up working out in the end.
Good Luck

you can use a 15mm deep socket to move the idler tensinor or a female torx socket. The first thing I would do is take nice digital pictures of your current belt set up and draw a picture for your self. Once you remove the belt you will supprised how fast you will forget how the belt went on. It is an easy job but the hard part is remembering how the belt fit. Make sure you take pics and make some notes.

Good luck,
Mario
